Sophie secures 2nd chance financing for a 2027 Mitsubishi RVR

When Sophie thought no one would say yes again

Sophie wasn't the type to ask for help easily. At 34, a mother of an 8-year-old boy, she worked full-time as an administrative assistant at an SME on the South Shore, with an annual income of about $46,000. On paper, it wasn't a disaster. But in reality, she was still dealing with the aftermath of two very difficult years.

After a separation, a few months off work, and credit cards used to cover expenses, she eventually filed a consumer proposal. Her credit score took a heavy hit, sitting around 545 when she started looking for a new vehicle. She still had a small personal loan in her history, and even though her employment situation had stabilized, she felt like her past was following her everywhere.

Her old car was dying. It started every other morning, guzzled gas, and Sophie was terrified it would leave her stranded on the side of the road with her son. She had already tried to secure financing elsewhere, and the response was cold and almost automatic: Refusal. No clear explanation, just the feeling of being one more file to discard.

That’s when she wrote to Prêt Auto Québec, albeit without much conviction. She told us later that she was almost expecting to relive the same humiliation.

A first conversation that changes the tone

From the very first call, what surprised her was that we didn't speak to her like someone who had "failed at life." We spoke to her like someone who was rebuilding. That is the exact spirit of the Prêt Auto Québec 2nd chance program: looking at the current situation, not just past mistakes.

Her real concerns, unfiltered

Sophie was afraid of everything: being turned down again, being offered a vehicle that was too expensive, or signing something she didn't understand. She often repeated, "I don't want to get into trouble again." It was a legitimate fear.

We took the time to validate her income, her current payments, and her actual budget. She earned about $2,850 net per month. Rent, daycare, groceries, and other commitments left her with little wiggle room. We needed to find a payment that was sustainable, not just "approvable."

We asked for the usual documents to build a solid file: her last two pay stubs, a void cheque, her driver’s license, proof of address, and the details of her consumer proposal. Nothing glamorous, but that’s often where the file is decided. Sophie was afraid the word "proposal" would close the door. On the contrary, the fact that she was up to date on her payments showed she was regaining control.

The vehicle choice and the longest wait

When she saw the 2027 Mitsubishi RVR ES, it was love at first sight. Not because it was extravagant, but because it was exactly what she needed: a compact SUV, reassuring in the winter, and spacious enough for family life without going overboard. She even smiled when seeing it in Blue, saying it looked "less like a temporary fix and more like a fresh start."

the hardest part was the wait. Once the file was sent to the specialized lender, we explained that in 2nd chance financing, a response often takes between 24 and 48 hours. For someone already stressed, every hour feels like an eternity. By the next morning, she still hadn't heard back and was convinced it meant a refusal.

The call she didn't dare to hope for

The approval arrived later that day. Not a magical, fairy-tale approval, but a real, realistic solution. The loan was accepted with a $2,500 down payment, a 72-month term, and a 12.49% rate. Her monthly payment was around $498.

Sophie asked us to repeat the numbers. Not because she wasn't listening, but because she couldn't believe it. After being told no elsewhere, she was finally hearing a yes that was structured, explained, and adapted to her reality. We reviewed with her what it meant concretely for her budget, with no pressure. The goal wasn't just to get her back on the road; it was to ensure she could rebuild her credit with payments she could maintain.

Signing day

When Sophie came in to sign, she was nervous. She had that caution often seen in people who have faced financial problems: she read everything, asked questions about everything, and wanted to understand every amount. Honestly, that’s a good thing.

We went through the contract with her line by line: the price, the term, the rate, the payments, and the conditions. No last-minute surprises. Just clarity.

Handing over the keys, and something bigger than a car

When we handed her the keys, Sophie cried. Not for long, just enough to release months of tension. It wasn't just the joy of getting her Mitsubishi RVR ES. It was the feeling of coming out of a tunnel. She was leaving with a reliable vehicle, but also with a concrete plan to reclaim her path, one payment at a time.

A few weeks later, she wrote to tell us she felt proud for the first time in a long time. Proud for daring to try again. Proud for not giving up after being refused. Proud to show her son that you can fall, get back up, and rebuild.

If you recognize yourself in Sophie’s story—damaged credit, refusals elsewhere, fearing you have no options left—know that human solutions still exist. The hardest part is often making that first inquiry. If you want to see what is possible for your situation, you can start here: /demande.

And above all, don’t let your financial past convince you that every door is closed. Sometimes, you just need to find the right team at the right time. Your next "yes" might start more humbly than you think, but it can change much more than just a car.
